چکیده

We show that the expected composition of cosmic rays accelerated from the erosion products of fast supernova grains in the hot interstellar medium (HISM) of ejecta enriched superbubbles, where the bulk ( 85%) of Galactic supernovae occur, is consistent with the currently available cosmic ray data. In particular, we show that if the cosmic ray metals come from the sputtering of fast refractory grains that condense in expanding supernova ejecta and populate the superbubbles, then: (i) the abundances of the refractory cosmic ray metals, including C and O, are consistent with the required cosmic ray source abundances; (ii) the problematic cosmic ray C-to-O ratio is explained by refractory oxide and graphite grain abundances; (iii) the scattering of ambient gas by the fast grains can account for the relative abundance of cosmic ray volatiles; (iv) the mean time delay for cosmic ray acceleration is consistent with the ACE measurements; and (v) the resulting cosmic ray metallicity is consistent with the Galactic evolution of the Be abundance. In addition, we point out that acceleration in the HISM is energetically much more favorable than acceleration in the denser phases of the interstellar medium because the bulk of the supernovae occur in the HISM where the shocks suffer much lower radiative losses than those of supernovae in the denser average interstellar medium.

Detailed analysis of observed antiprotons in cosmic rays

In the present work, the origin of antiprotons observed in cosmic rays (above the atmosphere) is analyzed in details. We have considered the origin of the primaries, (which their interactions with the interstellar medium is one of the most important sources of antiprotons) is a supernova type II then used a diffusion model for their propagation. We have used the latest parameterization for anti...

Cosmic Ray Acceleration in Superbubbles and the Composition of Cosmic Rays

We review the evidence for cosmic ray acceleration in the superbubble/hot phase of the interstellar medium, and discuss the implications for the composition of cosmic rays and the structure and evolution of the interstellar medium (ISM). We show that the bulk of the galactic supernovae, their expanding remnants, together with their metal-rich grain and gas ejecta, and their cosmic ray accelerat...

LiBeB, O and Fe Evolution: Refractory Element and Cosmic Ray Transport Delays

In two recent publications (Ramaty et al. 2000a; Ramaty, Lingenfelter & Kozlovsky 2000b) we developed an Fe, O and LiBeB evolutionary model based on a Monte-Carlo approach. We allowed each core collapse supernova to eject Fe and O according to the calculations of Woosley & Weaver (1995, hereafter WW95) or the values given by Tsujimoto & Shigeyama (1998, hereafter TS). For Fe, we added the contr...

Libeb Energetics and Cosmic Ray Origin

Three different models have been proposed for LiBeB production by cosmic rays: the CRI model in which the cosmic rays are accelerated out of an ISM of solar composition scaled with metallicity; the CRS model in which cosmic rays with composition similar to that of the current epoch cosmic rays are accelerated out of fresh supernova ejecta; and the LECR model in which a distinct low energy compo...

Cosmic Rays VIII Models and Predictions for Cosmic Rays Origin and Propagation

It is presumed that the observed cosmic rays up to about 3 · 1018 eV are of Galactic origin, the particles being the ones which are found into the composition of the stellar winds of stars that explode as supernova into the interstellar medium (ISM) or into their winds. These particles are accelerated in the supernova shock. In order to obtain the observed cosmic ray spectrum it is necessary to...
